Mass and volume transport variability in an eddy-filled ocean
- Carl Wunsch,

- Reasons for recommending:
True changes in the North Atlantic ocean circulation due to climate change are nearly impossible to identify, according to Wunsch et al. This is due to the background variability caused by naturally occurring eddies. The findings imply that measurements in three dimensions over several decades would be necessary to determine whether climate change has affected the ocean's circulation.
