Size quantization effect in highly stable UV emitting HgTe nanoparticles: Structure and optical properties
-
Original article citation: J. Appl. Phys. 106," 094306 , (2009). - Categories: Materials, Biotechnology, and Physics
- Recommended by : Shyamalima Chowdhury on 11/12/2009 08:35AM GMT
The manuscript describes the synthesis of the organic ligand L-cysteine ethyl ester hydrochloride (LEEH) capped HgTe NPs and the UV absorption and emission of these NPs. The hydrophilic surface passivating LEEH agent makes the biologically harmful NPs biocompatible, which is significally meaningful in the medical application. - Comment on this subject: 0 comments made

Character and Spatial Distribution of OH/H2O on the Surface of the Moon Seen by M3 on Chandrayaan-1
-
Original article citation: Science doi:10.1126/science.1178658 (2009) - Categories: Earth & Environment, Materials, Physics, and Space & astronomy

This article reports detection and mapping of water (hydroxyl stretch in the infrared) on the surface of Moon. India played a key role in the mission and authors include researchers from PRL and ISRO. Implications for discovery of water are endless. Importance of water for life on a planetary body or development of geomorphic features/weathering, fueling plate tectonics (as in planet Earth) are just a few implications for such a discovery. - Comment on this subject: 0 comments made

Strongly Correlated Superconductivity in Rh_{17}S_{15}
-
Original article citation: Phys. Rev. Lett. 100," (2008). - Categories: Physics
- Recommended by : arumugam thamizhavel on 04/03/2008 02:58AM GMT
The compound Rh17S15 is a naturally occuring mineral which is named as Miasite and is available in Miass River in Southern Urals, Russia. The first observation of superconductivity was reported 50 years ago. This paper describes the detailed superconducting properties of this compound which has large effective masses due to strong electron correlations. - Comment on this subject: 0 comments made

Origin of Ferromagnetism and its Pressure and Doping Dependence in Tl_{2}Mn_{2}O_{7}
-
Original article citation: Phys. Rev. Lett. 96," (2006). - Categories: Physics

Using the Nth order muffin-tin obital downfolding technique, this research explores the origin of ferromagnetism in pyrochlore, which is found to be driven by a hybridization induced spin polarization of delocalized charge carriers. - Comment on this subject: 0 comments made

Precision Microstate Counting of Small Black Rings
-
Original article citation: Phys. Rev. Lett. 96," (2006). - Categories: Physics
- Recommended by : Bipin Dasgupta on 04/02/2008 05:49AM GMT
Viewed as small black rings, two-charge supersymmetric states with spin in 5D string theories correspond to 4D nonspinning small black holes, indicating its precise agreement with the macroscopic degeneracy to all orders in an asymptomatic expansion. - Comment on this subject: 0 comments made

Leptogenesis from Spin-Gravity Coupling following Inflation
-
Original article citation: Phys. Rev. Lett. 96," (2006). - Categories: Physics
- Recommended by : Bipin Dasgupta on 04/02/2008 05:34AM GMT
This research depicts how the energy levels of the left- and the right-handed neutrinos are split in the background of gravitional waves generated during inflation, which, in presence of lepton-number-violating interactions, gives rise to a net lepton asymmetry at equilibrium. - Comment on this subject: 0 comments made

Velocity Autocorrelations and Viscosity Renormalization in Sheared Granular Flows
-
Original article citation: Phys. Rev. Lett. 96," (2006). - Categories: Physics
- Recommended by : Bipin Dasgupta on 04/02/2008 05:24AM GMT
This research has found that the logarithmic divergence in the viscosity in 2D, and the divergence of Burnett coefficients in 3D, which is chracteristic of a fluid of elastic particles at equlibrium, is absent in a sheared granular flow. - Comment on this subject: 0 comments made
