Centrosome misorientation reduces stem cell division during ageing
-
Original article citation: Nature doi:10.1038/nature07386 (2008) - Categories: Stem cell niches, Tissue stem cells, Germ cells, and Regenerative medicine

A remarkable paper in the area of stem cell biology. It has been proposed that a decline in stem cell function contribute to tissue ageing. However, the underlying mechanism is poorly understood until this paper wherein for the first time authors identified a novel mechanistic link between the control of stem cell polarity and the age-related decline in tissue regenerative capacity. - Comment on this subject: 0 comments made

Asymmetric Inheritance of Mother Versus Daughter Centrosome in Stem Cell Division
-
Original article citation: Science 315," 518 - 521, (2007). - Categories: Tissue stem cells, Stem cell niches, Germ cells, and Regenerative medicine
- Recommended by : Shree Singh on 05/01/2008 02:48AM GMT
This is a seminal article in the stem cell field wherein for the first time the authors demonstrated that developmentally programmed asymmetric behavior and inheritance of mother and daughter centrosomes underlies the stereotyped spindle orientation and asymmetric outcome of stem cell divisions. Specifically, the mother centrosome is always inherited by the stem cell, whereas the daughter centrosome is inherited by the differentiating cell. - Comment on this subject: 0 comments made

Self-Renewal of Murine Embryonic Stem Cells Is Supported by the Serine/Threonine Kinases Pim-1 and Pim-3

Seems like the paper is breaking the trends of serine/ threonine kinases, especially serine/ threonine kinases means it’s always meant only for aberrant expressions and or for cancer druggable targets. The French group has found that the proto-oncogene kinase pim-1 and pim-3 (in detail: Serine/Threonine Protein Kinases -> CAMK Group -> PIM Family -> Proto-Oncogene Serine/Threonine-Protein Kinase Pim-1 and Pim-3) plays important role in stem-cell renewal. Quite interesting paper, which igniting number of curiosities especially on the therapeutic side, extensively. - Comment on this subject: 0 comments made

The authors have developed an exogenous mitogenic growth factors free, novel stem-cells based method to study of neurogenesis process, stem cell properties and their behaviours in a neural stem cell (NSC) niches,in addition to possibility to study the role of stem-cell niches in normal and pathological conditions, etc. Apart from further possibilities of applications in stem cell transplantation, moreover, on the other hand, the basic idea/concepts behind the method are also creating number of curiosity questions such as - whether it is possible to expand into other stem-cells niches such as osteoblasic niche, pre-metastatic niche as well as microenvironment study in model organisms?, etc., etc. A remarkable paper in the area of methods development. - Comment on this subject: 0 comments made
